Ebook About Shy bookstore clerk Kosuke Mikado has the ability to see ghosts and spirits, an ability he wishes he didn’t have, since what he sees usually terrifies him. Rihito Hiyakawa, an exorcist whose supernatural powers are as strong as his social graces are weak, doesn’t seem to fear anything, mortal or otherwise. When this odd couple gets together to solve the bizarre cases that come their way, their work methods may not be entirely safe for work!Book The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window, Vol. 1 (Yaoi Manga) Review :
Yamashita Tomoko is one of my fave mangakas. She's wonderful at delving into the psyches of damaged, lonely, quirky characters. I wish her josei and non-yaoi works would get translated/licensed. I'd love to buy/read more. My first exposure to Y.T. was with DINING BAR AKIRA years ago, and I enjoyed that. Yes, It's me. Butter! Don't Cry Girl! I just love her odd characters facing up to their flaws and finding love or friendship just the same.In this manga, we have supernatural goings on. Here is the blurb from Baka-Updates: "Shy bookstore clerk Kosuke Mikado has the ability to see ghosts and spirits, an ability he wishes he didn’t have, since what he sees usually terrifies him. Rihito Hiyakawa, an exorcist whose supernatural powers are as strong as his social graces are weak, doesn't seem to fear anything, mortal or otherwise. When this odd couple gets together to solve the bizarre cases that come their way, their work methods may not be entirely safe for work!"The sexual tension on this is very high and very yaoi-ish, without there being any sex (which I like fine). It's the exorcism ritual itself that is the source of connection and bliss, as Mikado and Hiyakawa cooperate-Hiyakawa the alpha/seme and Mikado the led-along/passive/uke. At first, Mikado fights HIyakawa, reluctant partner, dragged along. But they start to sync better. There is one larger criminal mystery with a curse and three corpses that becomes something that is a major arc, but it is not resolved in this volume. I'm biting my nails wanting volume 2, to see how the reluctant Mikado comes into his own (there are hints of something very special and very "large" about Mikado's soul and ability, beyond his seeing ghosts). I don't know when that volume is due, but if it was available today, I'd immediately preorder it. This was a cracking good story (not rushed, not slow) of someone not knowing who he really is (and full of fear to boot) and someone else who is pushy and fearless (but maybe also dangerous). These characters hint at having emotional and psychological issues (like so many of Yamashita's), but it moves well and the suspense is not grinding, but it hums from the start and rises, as it should. It ends on a cliffhanger. You've been warned. It is very, very good and you will also, like me, be shouting,"Hurry" to the publisher to get the next volume out.And please, publishers, translate and "Kindle-ize" the rest of Yamashita's works (especially the non-yaoi). She's sooo good. Not a traditional yaoi for sure... The characters are fascinating and well-developed. No sex, but the story does not lack for it. The story is so thrilling I could not stop reading it, even when I got scared (reading at night in the dark). I will be thinking about this story for a LONG time. I CANNOT wait for the next volume because it is just THAT good. You need to read it for yourself!!!
